The Top 10 Albums of 2011

To our old hands…welcome back! There is time for speech making, and this is not it. Tuck in!

I hope that everyone had a great 2011 and as I sit here and reflect on this past year I am reminded how very long and crazy it has been. I know that some of you have not had such a great year and it is my hope and wish that 2012 will be a better year for all!

Either way, it is nice to know that there is one constant in our lives that we can count on - MUSIC. Whether we are on top of the world or in great turmoil, music can help us take the pain away and help us to make it through. Music is the one companion that will never let you down when all others have, as it is all around us.

2011 has been a fantastic year for all musical genres. This years Rock & Roll landscape has seen some new break through artists and some old familiar faces get back into the game. It has been said by some of the critics, that Rock music got a little screwed this year by the music industry and has gone underground. Isn't that what makes Rock music what it is? Rock goes against the grain and will never die. Rock will just be reborn over and over again like the phoenix, getting stronger and stronger.

This year’s release of albums were some of the best in several years. I find it difficult to come up with a Top 10 list. Especially if you are like me and your mood changes for what you want to listen to on an hourly basis. After researching some of the “other” Top 10 lists, I found that most were too generic with what is on the radio only, and some are what I'd like to call too "Indie-credible". Just because it's underground, super obscure and indie, doesn't mean it's worth a listen or anyone’s time. I believe the same goes for mainstream music. But that is why our opinions are just merely opinions.  That is also why I love talking music. So what's your Top 10? I would love to know. Just throw it up here or on The State of Rock Review Facebook page.

Well let's get down to business. Choosing a Top 10 list was beyond difficult. As I reflect back at my 2010 Top 10 list I felt as though it was a little incomplete, but my stuck to my guns. Sorting through this year's reserve was an amazing ride that carried me all over the map of Rock music and several albums on the list, will go on my all time favorites list.

*(If you would like to hear a cut from an album, just click on the green link below each review.)*

10. James Blake- James Blake
Can anybody tell me what the hell Dubstep is?!  Well whatever it is, James Blake takes it to another level. On his debut album James Blake brings his bag of tricks to full length LP.  Known for his riveting remix singles and EP’s over the past couple years James Blake finally gives what people were begging for. His eerie vocals and mashed up electronica R&B creations give way to a laid back rock tinge. Yes this is Dubstep which throws everything together in a blender and spits it out. Blake shines here and leaves you yearning to call up a friend, turn the lights down low, and grab a drink and well… Use your imagination.

9. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds- Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds
It was really hard for me first to fathom Oasis breaking up seeing that the Gallagher brother’s constant fighting and wonderful Beatles rip-off hits made them one of the 1990’s greatest bands of the era. Since they split, Liam taking the old band with him and Noel going it on his own, it was really hard deciding which asshole brother to put in the Top 10. Both artists have put out some great stuff this year, however, Noel won out with his new band and the album by the same name.  Both brothers maintain that 60’s rock sound, or their pompous limey way of going at it with each other. But for all the bad press and never ending stories of being a dick, Noel‘s album has just a little more bite. His tasteful sound and uber Beatles lyrics make this one a keeper.  Nothing too flashy, just good 60’s via old Oasis guitar riffs which make for a great album. Most critics seemed to like Liam’s solo better but I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the High Flying Birds, if you were an Oasis fan. *Bloody Brits at it again!*

8. Arctic Monkeys- Suck It and See
From the cheeky album title to the simple album cover, Arctic Monkeys 4th LP offers up another British rock hit. Taking a short break from all the huge success in the UK they came back with an album filled with great lyrics and catchy guitar riffs that mesmerize you into singing along while everybody stops to stare.  With a swagger all their own, Arctic Monkeys show us why the U.K went ape shit over them back in 2005. On “Don’t Sit Down Because I Moved Your Chair” and “Brick by Brick” the fuzz tones and silly witty lyrics truly show what Arctic Monkeys are all about - Making good British garage rock.

7. Ryan Adams- Ashes & Fire

Ryan Adams has been bringing his version of Alt-country to us for the last 12 years or so and he is still one of the most underrated musical talents in the industry. With his latest endeavor since coming off a 3 year hiatus from the now defunct Ryan Adams and the Cardinals band, Adams gives us another great songwriting experience. While the great critics give it lukewarm reviews and no praise, this writer feels the exact opposite. Ashes & Fire shows a return to his Gold days but just a little more laid back throughout the tracks. Track 3 “Come Home” is the perfect example of the melancholy sound layered with alt-country vibes with a side of slide guitar. Adams may never for one reason or another get what he deserves but, his devout fan base, including myself, will listen to Ashes & Fire round and round over and over again and again.

6. My Morning Jacket- Circuital
My Morning Jacket known for their fantastically addictive live concerts have again put out another wonderful album. Their 6th LP to date, these Kentucky boys, stick with the eclectic, spacey, experimental southern rock that they have done on the last 2 albums 2005’s Z and 2008’s Evil Urges.  This time they get a little more refined and the musical hooks are a little more polished while still keeping that crazy alt-country southern rock feel.  Tracks like “Wonderful (The Way I Feel)” and the stylistic “Circuital” truly show the power of this album and this amazingly talented and underrated band.  Jim James silly lyrics and melodic vocals solidify Circuital as an album worthy of being in the Top 10 of any list for 2011.

5. The Black Keys- El Camino
Sitting on top of the world and sitting at the top of 2010’s Top 10 album list you would think the Black Keys would take a break or put out an album that couldn’t compare to its predecessor. Well you would be wrong. Then why are they at number 5 you ask? Because that is how awesome Rock was this year.  If El Camino was out last year it would be clearly number 1. This raging monster of an album clearly shows the solid powerful genius of The Black Keys, not to mention the best producer in the business right now in Danger Mouse. Everything he touches damn near turns to gold. With dirty fantastic blues-rock guitar hooks and a more retro soulful feel than any other album, El Camino is going to be listened to well into the year of 2012. They don’t give up anything here. They are just adding to their already legendary catalog of greatness. The Black Keys create a record that is an all out raucous party. I am just waiting for the ticket to that party to arrive.

The Black Keys- Lonely Boy

4. Foo Fighters- Wasting Light
Since the untimely and senseless death of Kurt Cobain to the beginning of greatness, David Grohl has never let the years stop his tour de force of hard rock consistency from turning into a boring cliché’. The Foo Fighters have been a fixture in Rock & Roll now for over 15 years, and this is their masterpiece.  Or should I say, Grohl’s masterpiece. Wasting Light produced by Butch Vig, the genius who brought us Nirvana and is the drummer for Garbage,  takes this album to a level other Foo Fighters have not been able to achieve. Grohl went into the studio using old recording technology giving this album a stripped down feel. The Foo Fighters other albums, like the first self-titled album Foo Fighters and The Colour and the Shape, have fantastic singles on them and are commendable but Wasting Light from beginning to end is the best. With fantastic special guests like Bob Mould of Husker Du and Sugar fame and Krist Novoselic bassist for Nirvana, all of Wasting Lights tracks create a convoy of, in your face and give you a big ass hug Rock & Roll goodness. With horrible tragedy there can be new and better beginnings. The Foo Fighters have proved that time and time again.

3. Bon Iver- Bon Iver
What is there to say about Bon Iver? You either love ‘em or hate ‘em.  The mastermind of Justin Vernon, Bon Iver has received critical acclaim and critical outrage because of his approach to his craft and the albums produced. Everybody went nuts over Vernon’s first album For Emma, and Ever Ago and thought he was super Indie-credible. With his second endeavor, the self-titled album Bon Iver Justin Vernon changes it up and shows the he is not just one sided which aggravates the hipster critics.

Bon Iver second venture proves the critics wrong with its oddly titled tracks, stacks of layered guitar effects, and horns a plenty. Vernon’s falsetto voice capture’s commands your attention and leaves you wanting more. My favorite track Holocene, sums the Bon Iver album up as a true dreamy folk gem. I love this album because it is unlike any other album out there. This album is blowing up all over the place. Is Justin Vernon the next Rock genius or is he just another one of many indie rockers that need to be themselves? Meh - who cares…I say.

2. Atlantic Fadeout- Better Run of Bad Luck
About 2 years back I met a server named Abigail Henderson at a local bar I frequent, who told me I should come see her and her husband play music sometime. That chance encounter turned into witnessing the birth of a new band with other great Kansas City musicians. They went on to create a Rock & Roll album of Heavenly proportions. The band is Atlantic Fadeout and the album is Better Run of Bad Luck. I am going to go out on a limb and will fight anybody on this subject. Atlantic Fadeout is bar none the best band in Kansas City. Better Run of Bad Luck weaves a web of stories that read like an old classic and Abigail is the narrator.  This masterpiece of music Americana fills the soul with positive and happy memories of, fantastic drunken nights, and wonderful trips to the city that keep you wanting more.

The amazing guitar riffs of Chris Meck and the back bone timing and beats of bassist Dutch Humphrey and drummer Amy Farrand make Atlantic Fadeout a true American Rock band.  With tracks like the title track “Better Run of Back Luck” a gritty story of the city and crazy ass nights, Atlantic Fadeout shows you how a real raw and pure Rock & Roll record should sound.  If you hadn’t heard of Atlantic Fadeout until now, you have to get a copy of Better Run of Bad Luck, go to their website, or if you are lucky, a concert. Do it your life may just depend on it!

1. Fleet Foxes- Helplessness Blues
I knew right off that this was the number 1 album of 2011 as I can’t stop listening to it. The Fleet Foxes are pure folk rock goodness that cannot be out done. This masterpiece of fantastic lyrics, amazing guitars, haunting harmonies, give Helplessness Blues a sound of pure magic. Many have said that, this is like listening to Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young or even The Beach Boys, and I couldn’t agree more.  It has a slight Celtic feel to some of the songs, but singer Robin Pecknold is an unstoppable vocal master.  From the first time you hear the first song “Montezuma” to the last song, the epic “Growing Oceans” you will have gone on a great adventure. These guys have created a classic Rock album.  Fleet Foxes first self titled album took us on a more Americana southern folk journey, but with ‘Helplessness Blues’ they take you on a journey into the mind, body, and soul. I find it difficult to come up with the right words to explain why this album makes perfect sense.  No I am not smoking anything.  I am just getting high on Fleet Foxes.

Daddy, what's a record?

Greetings Krazy Kats,

RecordStoreDay.com
April 16, was Record Store Day worldwide, and my friends it was epic! I know most of you haven't listened to anything on vinyl in years, hell let's face it up until a few months ago I hadn't listened to a record in many moons. I can still remember digging through a bunch of boxes in my parent’s basement and finding my dad's turntable and freaking out. I had to check to see if it still worked and to my amazement it did. So I busted out my copy of Deep Purple's "Machine Head" I had hanging on a wall and turned the bitch up! I had an Eargasm! These beautiful pops and hisses with wonderful music in between, was cosmic.
To hear Ritchie Blackmore's solo in "Smoke on the Water" on vinyl was like nothing else I've experienced. Yes I know I maybe being a little melodramatic, but it was a wonderful feeling like discovering my passion for music all over again. This brings me to my reason in writing this issue on Record Store Day. I had never really experienced an event like this. I didn’t even know there was a record store down the street from me. So it was a few days before while clicking through Rock and Roll articles on the net and finding advertisement for the Record Store Day event, I knew I had to partake in the festivities. As I drove up to the store I could barely find a parking space it was so packed and I knew at that moment I was in for something special. You could hear the store was jumping with the music playing and the people going in and out with huge smiles on their faces like they just got laid. As soon as I walked in I was in my version of Mecca. There were records and people everywhere. You would have thought this was a Black Friday sale at Wal-mart, well except nobody was beating the shit out of each other. But I had come ready and had a mission baby! I had to pick up some new vinyl. And as I was sifting through Led Zepplin and The Sex pistols and even some great new releases, I knew I would be making this place a home away from home. They even had brought in a pretty good band for this wonderful occasion.
Like I said before I was in Heaven. The first thing I saw that I knew I had to have was The Beatles Abbey Road album. It was calling me. If you haven’t heard a Beatles album on vinyl you are missing out. Then I went for something new. Mind you everything that was released just for the Record Store Day event was completely picked through, but I managed to pick up  Ray Lamontagne and the Pariah Dogs live album, which I might add is amazing. And finally The Fleet Foxes first 2 new singles on their upcoming album, amazing as well. I had to pinch myself that day just to make sure the fun I was having was not a dream. In closing I feel that Record Store Day was a smashing success. It’s amazing how the 8 track, the cassette tape, the CD, and even the digital music revolution was going to put an end to Vinyl. Well Vinyl may not be the format of the future or what you are listening to today, but it definitely is not dead and in fact if you look a little closer sales are up, and today’s artist’s are releasing vinyl in conjunction with CD’s  and digital versions of their work. If you can pick up a record player somewhere or dig through your parent’s basement for that copy of The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack I recommend you turn it on, and turn it up. Now get to your local record store! And long live Vinyl! I leave you with some parting words from a great artist.
“I think it’s high time the mentors, big brothers, big sisters, parents, Guardians, and neighborhood ne’er do wells, start taking younger people That look up to them To a real record store and show them what an important part of life music really is. I trust no one who hasn’t time for music. What a shame to Leave a child, or worse, a generation orphaned from one of life’s great beauties. And to the record stores, artists, labels, dj’s, and journalists; we’re all in this together. Show respect for the tangible music that you’ve dedicated your careers and lives to, and help It from becoming nothing more than disposable digital data.”- Jack White

Always remember music is life….

Kansas City has a music pulse?

Sons of Great Dane
Greetings again sexy monkey's. Not to get super philosophical on this blog, but on my journey through life, I have had my up's and major down's. One of the horrible tragedies besides being married for 8 years, was the almost quick and painful death of great music in Kansas City around the year 2000-2001. Let's face it we crashed and burned when we were trying to become the next Seattle scene back in the 90's. It seemed the light had completely gone out for a rock scene. Great rock venues like the Hurricane and the Grand Emporium were dead in the water and thus a lifeless abyss of nothingness started. Enter 2011. This city has a music pulse again. It didn't just happen out of the blue. It took the effort of people who said, No way is music and rock dead in Kansas City. It has started with people who were in the scene in the 90's and a new generation of rockers to quote Motley Crue, kickstart the heart of Kansas City. Oh its taken several years to get it going but if you look around you can feel it. As I opened my eyes and woke up from a horrible nightmare I started to notice the scene I had once thrived in. It started just a few short years ago for me around 2008 early 2009. Oh the revolution may have started a little earlier but these past few years have been so amazing for the whole music scene. With places like the Record Bar, The Riot Room(out of the ashes of the Hurricane), The Crosstown Station, and The tiny burning light throughout this darkness, Davey's Uptown. I could go on and on about the great venues once again in KC. With spring and summer around the corner there will be plenty of great local music to fill your nights. So who are some of these bands that are busting out at the seams of the underbelly of KC? Well I have some favorites. The Sons of Great Dane, Adam Lee and the Dead Horse Sound Company,  The Roman Numerals just to name a few. But there is one band that could be my favorite, and I think is the ambassador the rock scene in Kansas City. This Band is Atlantic Fadeout.
Atlantic Fadeout 2010
Made up of members of bands, like the The Gaslights and Elkheart. Led by a wonderfully battle ridden and empowered woman named Abigail Henderson,  Atlantic Fadeout oozes allover what Kansas City and the Midwest is all about in rock and roll today. Yes I am a little biased but see for yourself. Get out and go to a show. Any show. Also helping the music scene here in KC and the Midwest is a wonderfully amazing nonprofit organization known as the Midwestern Music Foundation. They support local and Midwest musicians, and great music in the area. They also support a health care fund for musicians and artists as well. So please support local music and art. Some of these bands that I have mentioned including Atlantic Fadeout, will be crashing that fantastic festival South By Southwest which started March 11th. Its called the MidCoast Takeover 2011, and in its second year it is in full effect. This will happen March 18th and 19th. So if you would like to hear these bands and have a whole week off head down to Austin and see them. I have linked some sites to go to as well. Please check em out. Its free and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.  Can you say music downloads at no cost!  So please get out there and enjoy the local music. It makes KC a better place to live in and enriches our hearts and minds. The more you do the more Kansas City will be a formidable power in the music scene in this country. And remember Music is Life......

February 2011 Album Reviews Iron & Wine, Smith Westerns

In the world of music (and especially in the world of Rock), the landscape has changed drastically in the last 10-11 years or so. It used to be a great band or singer was creating a rippling effect with an album that had us shaking in our boots and screaming for more. Throughout the years since the dawn of the Rock age, you could find bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, U2, etc. etc. blow open the mainstream and set the standard. But to quote Bob Dylan "Times they are a changin'." Good rock is not always being played on mainstream radio these days or blowing up the charts as much as it used to be.  Like I have said before, you have to look for the good stuff. The invention of the internet, good digital home recording studios, and independent labels have changed the way music is discovered, distributed, and produced. There is a vast array of genres that are just waiting to be discovered. Heck some of the great singers and bands in the last few years have put out many albums and have never been heard by the mass majority. It is very hard to come up with a Top 10 list of Rock albums in the last 10 years or so that have blown up the charts. I can only think of a handful. But they are still out there. You have to look and listen, just a little closer. Some people say rock is dead. I just think it has taken a different shape.  And in this blog you will find many different styles ready to melt your face or let you sit back and take it all in.
I would like to add that in the process of writing this posting 2 of my top 10 bands of 2010 won just a couple of awards at that little show called the Grammy’s. The Black Keys won for best alternative album, and Arcade Fire won Album of the Year. How is that for independent music label’s. Some of the music reviewed here, you may think is a waste of time and horrible. Or you may love it and run out and buy the CD.  If you have an album or music you would like to suggest that I listen to or review, drop me a line. Remember, a song to preview from the album is always marked with a green link. So let’s get into the reviews for this go round....

Iron & Wine- Kiss Each Other Clean

The band Iron & Wine or should I say the one-man band of artist Sam Beam has gone through an amazing folk journey since his epic 2002 debut. His sharp, laid back, indie, folk, acoustic rock hooks have made him the master of folk rock today. With his soft voice (not to mention his Grizzly Adams beard which has its own weather system), Beam weaves a web of crazy feel good 70’s sounding hits on this album. 70’s you say? Some would say this can’t work in today’s world, but 2011’s Kiss Each Other Clean takes that 70’s feel and makes it modern for us. Iron & Wine is still pretty much just Sam Beam, but he brings along his backing group into the fold and makes a good album better. Sweet, melodic backing vocals from Sarah Simpson, great mixing by producer Brian Deck of Liz Phair, and Modest Mouse production fame bring the best out on this endeavor. Starting from where Iron & Wine left off from their first heavily produced album in 2007, Beam goes plugged in and takes on many different styles of music, including reggae, as well as a little Stevie Wonder style R&B. Some songs get a little interesting on writing style such as “Rabbit Will Run” with its jazzy feel, flute solo and lyrics about mother’s milk. Iron & Wine still stick to their guns and Beam still lays down the acoustic folk rock law on the song “Godless Brother in Love”. In regards to the writing on this album, Beam's poetic lyrics are as intimate and haunting as his voice. They are all over the place and a just little more bold than on previous albums. With amazing harmonies and a wonderful layered sound this album overall, is a keeper and worth listening to again and again. Some reviews and critics ask if Iron & Wine have hit the big leagues. Well in my book they were already there. Beam kicks out a wonderful album to start off 2011 right. If you have never heard of Iron & Wine at all and need a starting point, look no further than Kiss Each Other Clean. It will have you yearning for more…

Smith Westerns- Dye It Blonde

Next up is a sophomore album by Chicago rocker’s the Smith Westerns. This glam 70’s style group, with a little bit of 60’s garage rock thrown in there for good measure, bust out a classy pop album that is filled with all kinds of glittery lo-fi goodness. Growing up just a little bit from their debut 2009’s, The Smith Westerns. 2011’s Dye it Blonde gives a perfect example of stylish pop with slick chorus backing vocals and catchy guitar riffs. With ballads like “All Die Young” which starts off like a Coldplay song and rocking out on songs like “Imagine, Pt 3” and “Dance Away”, Smith Westerns latest shows a little more polish on their craft, but you can still feel that garage rock presence.  Frontman Cullen Omori stated that on this record he and the rest of the group were influenced by 90’s Britpop sound from bands like Oasis, Teenage Fanclub, and Suede. The Smith Westerns gives it their best, but unfortunately for me, this album tends to get a little boring and repetitious. They do show some of that Britpop flair, but it just isn’t enough.  However, the album is good enough in the beginning to keep you hooked even though Smith Westerns lose some luster in the end. Overall this is a decent second effort if you are into the glam, garage thing….

I hope you have enjoyed this edition of The State of Rock Review, and feel free comment, comment, comment. Music is Life.....

The Top 10 Albums of 2010

Greetings Cruel World! And welcome to The State of Rock Review....... This is my attempt at something I am very passionate about, and that is music. In this blog I will be reviewing Albums and other music related things, articles, affairs etc... I am mainly writing this blog for my own kind of therapy and I want to show the world that good music is still out there, not to mention good rock music, but sometimes you just have to look a little harder than the radio or top 40 charts.  Since this first blog is a little rushed and pressed for time, I will just being showing my favorite albums of the year and not completely reviewing them for this time out. Sorry in advance. I still think it is fitting that my Top 10 of 2010 has different styles of music of course mainly Rock, and that some of these bands you may have heard of and some you may have not. My goal is to let people in on my little world of Rock, and maybe get you interested in some new bands you haven't heard or maybe at least not in a while. I will in the future try to have at least 1 or 2 reviews up a month, and maybe more than 1 album at a time as well.  Please give feedback and chime in on what you thought of the Top 10, and/or lets hear who you thought should be in the Top 10. I would love to hear from anybody that enjoys music as much as I do. I have also put a link up in green, to a song from each album as well. In closing I hope everybody gets some enjoyment or enlightenment out of my blog or at least some new tunes to listen too, and if you have any bands or albums you would like to suggest to review or let me know about I would love to hear them. I hope everybody has a fruitful and fantastic 2011. So without further interruption here is my Top 10 Albums of 2010!

10.  Hellogoodbye - Would It Kill You?
After lineup changes and 4 years without an album this crazy little emo-band is back and they almost 100% ditched there emo sound....
Hellogoodbye- Would It Kill You?

9. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Your favorite Montreal group is back and gave us this gem of a 3rd album that some call overrated. Well I call it well done........
Arcade Fire- The Suburbs

8. Shout Out Louds - Work
On there 3rd album, this Swedish five piece changed up there sound a little from there previous albums and recruited American producer Phil Ek of the Shins and Fleet Foxes fame.......
Shout Out Louds- Show Me Something New

7. The Morning Benders - Big Echo
This San Francisco group has a Shins sound but with a 60's Brian Wilson edge as well. On there second album they got a little more modern but didn't leave that lo-fi sound behind. This is  my favorite song of 2010....
The Morning Benders- Excuses

6. She & Him- Volume II
This unlikely pairing of great folk singer M. Ward and actor Zooey Daschanel has turned into this album into gold. With Wards Phil Spector wall of sound like music and Zooey's voice, you just can't beat this combination....
She & Him- Thieves

5. Broken Bells- Broken Bells
What do you get when you join the frontman of the Shins and Danger Mouse of Gnarls Barkley fame? You get Broken Bells and the number 5 album of 2010 that's what you get. Hell Yes....
Broken Bells- The High Road

4. Dr. Dog- Shame Shame
Out of left field or somewhere else comes Dr. Dog. This Philadelphia based band brings what is the ongoing theme of late a lo-fi late 60's early 70's sound with a modern twist. You can even hear some sound of Graham Nash as well in the songwriting. Hard to believe this is their 6th album and they are almost unheard of.....
Dr. Dog- Shadow People

3. Tired Pony- The Places We Ran From
Up we have a supergroup formed by Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol fame. This album is fantastic it has members of R.E.M, Belle & Sebastian, and producer/musician Jacknife Lee. This group also includes guests like She & Him to create an alt-country style or feel which is what Lightbody envisioned for the album. Its worth listening too and owning and my number 3 album of the year.....
Tired Pony- Get On The Road

2. The Roots - How I Got Over
The Roots are consistently the best, most laid back, chill-axin, that's right I said chill-axin group out there. Why is this on the list, because it should be.. Most all the critics thought Kanye West's new album was the best of the year they are dead wrong. It doesn't even come close to this album if want to talk about rap and R&B. For record Kayne West's album is the biggest overrated piece of shit of the year. The Roots on the other hand are talent musicians as well as fantastic rappers. They bring a whole new level of cool, laid back grooves on this one. Listen for yourself.....
The Roots- Dear God 2.0 featuring The Monsters of Folk

1. The Black Keys- Brothers
Bustin' in at number 1 are The Black Keys. This duo brings there blues rock style to another level. I just can't stop listening to this album. It's allover the place. This album would be fantastic in any year. You listen to it once and you will want to listen to it again and again and again. Nuff Said.....
The Black Keys- Tighten Up
